First of all, it’s the first model that had a different codename from the rest of the body variations. There was the E90 M3 Sedan, the E92 M3 Coupe and the E93 M3 Convertible. The 3 Series also had the E91 Touring versions available, but that was never offered as an M car. Then there’s the engine. The S65 4-liter V8 under the bonnet is not only derived from the legendary S85 5-liter V10, but it’s also the only V8 ever fitted to an M3.
